Saturday fun activity: Where IS this?

Okay train fans—and you know who you are—if you're so good, then where exactly is this curved stretch of track located? Typically that would strike me as unfair—you've seen one set of tracks, you've seen 'em all.  But actually all the clues are there for you to pinpoint it precisely and, if not, well then I win, finally.
The winner will receive one of my limited edition, signed and numbered blog posters, certain to become a collector's item someday.
Okay, not certain. Nothing is certain. But I sure hope they might possible become a collector's item, and stranger things have happened. And if not, well, maybe you'll appreciate yours, a $21 value, should you place the scene above and win it. Remember to register your guesses below. Good luck. All aboard!

  1. Is this one of the garden trains at Chicago Botanic Gardens? I am certain that I recognize those begonias! ;)

  2. I knew it wasn't the Museum of Science and Industry from the flowers. Too late now anyway.

  3. Nope, not the Botanic Garden. Tougher than that. Good guess, though.

  4. May I ask what time of year this was taken? You wouldn't sneak in a Southern California site on us, would you?

  5. Fair question. A few summers back. In the greater Chicago area.

  6. Waiting for the Train Fans to chime in. There's a small Train Museum - well, it's called a museum - in Griffith Indiana where my grandkids live, but this isn't it. Way too nice.
It would be nice to discover that this is on the roof of the building downtown that displays the huge Santa Fe sign. Wow, been so long I wonder if that sign is still there.
    Um, sorry. I'm babbling.

  7. Prob mot the model train section in the DuPage museum in Wheaton. They have some fake flowers and grass for the indoor exhibit.

  15. Paul Fedrick,

"...the building downtown that displays the huge Santa Fe sign. Wow, been so long I wonder if that sign is still there."

Sadly, nope. Here's an architecture blog's post about it:

While I don't hate the Motorola sign QUITE as much as I assumed I would, it can't hold a candle to the ole Santa Fe sign, IMHO.
