They have become politicized, like almost everything else these days (even the Census has become politicized, for God's sake). Masks have become a personal statement, a dividing line between young and old, Republican and Democrat, and how serious (or how bogus) one thinks the Plague really is.

Drive-in movie theaters, which were nearly becoming extinct, are definitely making a comeback. The last one in my area was the fifth-highest grossing big-screen venue last week. Not just in the state (of Ohio), but in the entire COUNTRY. And the four ahead of it on the list? They were also drive-in movie theaters.

The 'experts' in this piece stated that at-home drinking has doubled or tripled, and home-delivery of cannabis products is thriving. I can easily believe both of those claims. But I don't agree that handshakes will go bye-bye forever. Maybe for a while, but the custom has been around for thousands of years, and when it comes back, then you'll know this crisis is finally histpry. Did the practice die out after the 1918 flu pandemic? Nope. It may not happen anytime soon, though. Might take years. It'll start with kids, those too young to remember why it stopped.

Sports are slowly making a return. Fans in the stands? That'll happen eventually but it may be in the far distant future, especially if the window for a vaccine does turn out to be 3-5 years, as the Johns Hopkins "expert" predicts. I can easily buy that timeframe, given their outstanding track record.

One thing the AARP 'experts' did not foresee was the cancellation of civic July 4th celebrations. As a direct result, the NYPD has already logged 300 times as many fireworks complaints as there were in June of last year. The same thing is happening in cities and towns all over the country. There has been a booming business in the purchase of fireworks for citizen use. Sales to civilians have skyrocketed (Sorry, couldn't pass up either one of those).

It's now fairly obvious that 2020 will be watershed moment in world history, and that we'll never again be returning to those olden, golden days. Like, say, January and February. Much of that AARP piece is probably off-target, but not all of it. It's a pretty safe bet that our lives will never be the same again.Grizz 65https://www.blogger.com/profile/02892702223228764894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-21784624870256107032020-06-23T10:17:45.664-05:002020-06-23T10:17:45.664-05:00Very interesting and thorough discussion of ... ob...Very interesting and thorough discussion of ... obsolescence? Enjoyable anyway. And thanks for the Latin, the meaning of which I was pretty sure of with my 3 + years of Latin, although I wasn't too proud to look the phrase up to make sure.

john tatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06215684866966011198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-55657726524584764832020-06-23T09:22:31.940-05:002020-06-23T09:22:31.940-05:00That one's over the left field fence! That one's over the left field fence!heydavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15509102502417886790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-25794506936457579492020-06-23T09:11:41.991-05:002020-06-23T09:11:41.991-05:00This gives food for thought. This gives food for thought.privatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18413982311699012802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-57137267394798027312020-06-23T08:37:12.597-05:002020-06-23T08:37:12.597-05:00Hope not.
