From the mid 80's to the mid 90's there were a plethora of nonfiction books published, making dire predictions that the growth in the Japanese economy would soon overtake the United States, relegating us to second rate status. Invariably in the closing chapters, the authors claimed we needed to implement similar policies, if we wished to stay competitive in the world economy. Well hindsight is indeed 20/20, and the Japanese markets soared in the 80's, until Dec. 1989 when the NIKKI225 peaked at 39,000 Yen. After that was one of the worst bear markets in history, by Mar. 2003 it was down to 7,800 Yen, and now 26 years later it's at 16,600 Yen, still less then half its high. Sadly with all the proof to the contrary, more politicians then just Trump believe implementing these and similar policies will improve our economy. Just as sexism is still rampant there, as per yesterday's discussion. Just look at how the Crown Princess was thought of when she didn't have a boy. Change may be on the way if they change their succession laws.Privatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10757585399827295128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-40786676144729413362016-03-07T08:43:30.023-06:002016-03-07T08:43:30.023-06:00Good one, Tom!Good one, Tom!Coeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06130250489695215525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-84260584392313187832016-03-07T08:42:22.163-06:002016-03-07T08:42:22.163-06:00Food, and everything else, was pricier when the do...Food, and everything else, was pricier when the dollar was weaker and the yen stronger.
