Deranged

And we thought the first Trump administration was a nightmare. During the Biden administration, rather than slowly grope their way back toward being decent people and loyal Americans, the MAGA crowd is deteriorating into a permanent state of foaming nonsensical madness, where no fact cannot be dismissed nor situation twisted into something contrary to what it is. Those lost in fealty to the former president have a phrase, "Trump Derangement Syndrome," they apply to anyone paying critical attention to his crimes or, indeed, critically pointing out anything about the 45th president did or does, such as my observation here Tuesday that the news he wanted to lob missiles into Mexico, then deny we had done it, revealed in former secretary of defense Mike Esper's memoir this week, would have been big news in a less crazy America.
Prompting the following tweet. I know I shouldn't reply—what is the point? This guy has four followers. But sometimes you just have to point out the obvious, out of fidelity to reason, the country and whatever shred of hope remains of our nation avoiding utter ruin. Of course he never responded. They seldom do.

  1. Things have become more clear. It’s about white supremacy and/or greed.
For the poorly informed, they choose the news outlet that tells them what they want to hear. There is no discussion. There is no debate. There is nothing.
For those with IQ’s having three digits, it’s about greed. Same thing. No discourse.
No amount of truth is going to change them.

  2. A supporter of The Cowardly Liar and his gang of voter fraud idiots recently claimed that Fox news had Democrats on staff while MSNBC is 100% liars. Asked to name one ex Democrat at Fox he offered Mike Wallace. Unlike Nicolle Wallace, one of several ex Republicans I named, Mike has been dead for about a decade. You can't argue with these people Neil, they are too stupid to know they're wrong. JP

    1. Just a suggestion, JP, but if you choose "Name / URL" on the drop-down box before you comment, you could put "JP" as your header instead of Anonymous. You don't need to put anything for URL.

    2. That's a good suggestion, Jakash, as Anonymous posts run a greater risk of being tossed unread.

    3. Jakash, I have experienced difficulties in the past following these steps. Even when successful it was only temporary and this machine would become stubborn. I notice a change in the format so I am following your instructions, as I am able to admit my inadequacies. Thanks for the advice.

    4. Well,I'm glad it seemed to have worked this time, JP...

  3. I saw that tweet and reply. It's just another version of "owning the libs." Many like him probably don't even bother to follow news sources outside of their Facebook feed and Fox News, so may be unaware of the many, many deal-breaking things that have been reported about the Biggest Loser. The fact that he's, without question, the person (let alone president) in public life who has lied the most often and the most brazenly, about matters great and small, does not keep them from taking his word over anything reported by the "fake news media" or even former members of Team Trump who spill a few beans when they finally figure they might be able to make some money from a book.

On another blog, there was a troll who gleefully reported that he didn't really like the guy, but he'd be voting for Dolt 45 "to piss people like you off." This attitude goes back to at least Reagan, who sowed the seeds of anti-elitism and the "government is evil" mentality. With the Supreme Court now solidly in their grasp, one better buckle up for what's coming to this benighted country. (The irony of a bunch of Harvard and Yale law school graduates, with the outlier coming from Notre Dame, carrying out the agenda of the anti-elitism party is ironic, to say the least.)

But "Derangement Syndrome" was certainly applied to Obama, and actually goes back to Charles Krauthammer coining the term Bush Derangement Syndrome with regard to Dems disdain for George W. The fact that Bush and Trump both demeaned the presidency and Obama elevated it is evidently beside the point...

    1. I didn't really read this closely Grizz, and if it came from someone else, I wouldn't post it. But this is encouraging violence, and beneath you. Predicting doom as one shuffles out the door is the eternal cry of the aged, and I myself would be loath to indulge in it. As my favorite Nietzsche quote reminds us, "When battling monsters; take care not to become a monster." This opinion is monstrous, and disappointing.

    2. I appreciate your posting it because it came from me. But I have said similar things in the past, and hardly an eyebrow was raised. In the summer of 2020, and when the Proud Boys marched in D.C. the following fall, and especially in the days and weeks after January 6th.

Violence will come from stage right, without any additional encouragement from me, or anybody else. God only knows what the Orange Boys have up their sleeve. How far will they go before the pushback comes? And then what? How are the decent and loyal Americans, many of whom are furious (like me) supposed to behave?.

MLK said: "Violence begets more violence, and hate begets more hate". But democracy and majority rule are rapidly melting away, like an ice cream cone in July. Germany in the Thirties comes readily to mind, but playing that card would definitely be beneath me. And if I were to predict a promising near-future for the Untied Snakes, and express my regrets that I won't live to see it, I would sound like an even more foolish old geezer.

Sorry I disappointed you. But I'm off-the-charts pissed. Haven't been this angry since my twenties, back in the Nixonian Era. And I know I'm not alone. Thanks, Donny! Thanks!

    3. In answer to your question: like decent and loyal Americans. MLK said that as a warning, and not as advice. But I don't want to get into a debate with you. Being pissed and saying unwise things is very common. Myself, I'd be reluctant to join in. But don't make a habit of it, at least not here.

    5. No shame in that. I had to significantly re-write a portion of Friday's column, twice, to get it in the paper.
