Your observations are not based on anything but an attack without probably finding out what the artist intended and what it's message portrays. Art is supposed to be subjective...just as music and literature don't appeal in the mass. Before you judge anything artistically you might consider some research. It may change how you view it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05239429666933242837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-43370691817823409502013-12-09T13:27:49.572-06:002013-12-09T13:27:49.572-06:00The worst has to be "The Town Ho's Story&...The worst has to be "The Town Ho's Story" in the Metcalf Federal Building. Part of GSA's art-in-architecture program. Mainly made of steel so it cannot be burned. That must have been by design. It is a daily insult to art, Chicago, the folks who work there and especially the taxpayers who paid for it.JPFnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-39963309914540029112013-12-09T13:19:49.813-06:002013-12-09T13:19:49.813-06:00When I take my Chicago lit class students on a bik...When I take my Chicago lit class students on a bike tour, they LOVE Agora (which is the title of the work of art in question). Stupid young people. And the artist is indeed Polish. Polish clout is what kept the Kennedy Expressway from being built, after all.Bill Savagehttp://chicagobydayandnight.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-26998159471533338412013-12-09T12:43:31.448-06:002013-12-09T12:43:31.448-06:00No I'm not, you still haven't admitted the...No I'm not, you still haven't admitted the city floodlights the steeples of some churches, which is flat out unconstitutional!
Plus, you know damn well that atrocity in Grant Park is hated by just about everyone. But political considerations keep it there as the alleged artist is Polish.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13978194163495589398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-80741293988533689572013-12-09T12:10:03.656-06:002013-12-09T12:10:03.656-06:00I'm with you regarding the Skokie Sculpture pa...I'm with you regarding the Skokie Sculpture park -- intriguing fun stuff. I also like most Modernist architecture and public art. To get all classical, de res gustibus non disputandem est. There's no arguing about matters of taste . . . I also like Louis Sullivan and pre-Modernist architecture covered in decoration, and classical Guys on Horses or Sad Lincoln statuary. Either I have catholic (in the original sense of the word) taste or no taste at all. . . I once saw sketches Mies made for Hitler where an ENTIRE CITY was made up of the Black Boxes. Scary! Patrons often have more money than taste, which explains the Tribune building (Old School, as it were). 333 N. MI Ave was the runner-up design, more forward looking art-deco style. I also like the Picasso, but understand the detractors.J.J. They've filled the east side with ridiculous & absurd garbage & called it the Skokie North Shore Sculpture Park.
Every single piece is uglier & more useless than the previous one.
There is a pulloff to park in while you peruse the collection.
The only cars you see are ones using the two porta-potties there. Then the drive off!

The only uglier "art" in Chicago is that collective atrocity in SW corner of Grant Park & Michigan & Roosevelt. It makes the crap like the Miro look good. Numerous art critics show their true feelings about this waste of steel & obviously money, as someone, I hope it wasn't the taxpayers, paid for this garbage.
The excellent & prescient critics are the dogs that constantly raise their hind legs & piss on it!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13978194163495589398noreply@blogger.com
