I know it makes me next door to Amish nowadays, but I feel superior without one. Everyone around me just seems so dependent on them, like kids with security blankets. Is it so hard to just be in your own head for five minutes? Do you really require the constant distraction and stimulation of a cell phone? I guess so, but it's not for me.Becky_Sharphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16497985428456192114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-84704035866715260842014-03-12T11:36:05.185-05:002014-03-12T11:36:05.185-05:00I feel naked without my cell phone, but on occasio...I feel naked without my cell phone, but on occasion I've forgotten it or realized I hadn't charged it. After the initial panic faded, I persevered, and after awhile realized how peaceful and freeing it was to be disconnected. That said, I felt a strange relief and joy when I got home and got back on the grid, which makes me think it's a good idea to go without it for short periods of time, to assure myself I'm not completely dependent on it. I have two keys to my little Mazda, one of which I don't use because the battery in the thingee used to click the door locks is dead and Mazda wants $75 for a replacement. Last fall we set out at an early hour for an annual visit to the Stratford Ontario Festival, and when we stopped at Rosie's in New Buffalo for breakfast. When I got out of the car and tried to click it locked I realized I had picked up the wrong key, and a great worry descended. Here we were going to be in a foreign county with no way to lock our vehicle and protect our valuables. Just as I was about to warn my wife to make sure she hadn't left any treasures in the car it occured to me: why not just use the key, as I had all those years before automatic car locking thingees had been made a commonplace feature of our automotive lives?Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09641357239788323783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-3231116403794107962014-03-12T08:07:53.989-05:002014-03-12T08:07:53.989-05:00Forsake your cell phone for a day?
