You nailed a hot button of mine. As a marketing professional, I've come across this flawed thinking so often, working for my various managers. <br /><br />Best example was at one company we were discussing a new product we were developing, and we tried to get into the typical consumer's head. Typical consumer. Our marketing director said "well, I'm a pretty average consumer, and I think...." and my mind drifted to how ridiculous this director was. In the parking lot was the director's BMW, not to mention the clothes, the condo, and the salary. The director is the furthest thing from average. Hell, even a low, mid-level manager like me is nowhere near the average American. I come across this all the time....crazy.
