I would like to know the per cenage of car jackers are doing it for a joy ride or just to steal a car. I would think most of the car jacker are selling the cars for parts. With people out of work it would not surprise me that they are doing it for money.sanfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06580867647162091670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-83761209776501375102021-02-25T17:26:19.337-06:002021-02-25T17:26:19.337-06:00Great column as always. Years ago I watched someone play Grand Theft Auto (I don't play video games), it was violent, funny and looked like a lot of fun. Saturday's sometimes I switch over on METV to watch a show and get there early and see the end of the "Rifleman" with Chuck Conners walking down the street firing away with his gun. Guess it's everywhere and always has. You sum it up best: we try to ban things not sure if it really works. I don't know what the answer is for the carjacking but sure seems to be the problem of the moment.Connellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18406704590565406630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-33318370830732733032021-02-25T13:34:13.511-06:002021-02-25T13:34:13.511-06:00Have never had any truck with video games and so h...Have never had any truck with video games and so have no real opinion, although I find the mere fact of something being called "Grand Theft Auto" somewhat alarming. I do know enough about social science research that when some one claims "the data show" I would need to know details before being convinced. One perhaps relevant fact: I'm told that Japanese children grow up being exposed to horrifically violent comics, yet there is considerably less violent crime in Japan than here.

TomTomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09641357239788323783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-33790845289927762502021-02-25T11:57:06.014-06:002021-02-25T11:57:06.014-06:00I don't know what I think about this issue, th...I don't know what I think about this issue, though I appreciate the forthrightness of yesterday's column and the two emails presented today.

I do believe, however, that it's de rigueur these days that *someone*, upon seeing the photo atop the post today, cheerfully respond: "Nice!" It seems to me he sure made a strong case in his letter to the editor in today's Sun Times. As with this video game discussion, at the end of the day, isn't it all about actually helping those who are most affected by the issue at hand?Baruchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10568908951400103413noreply@blogger.com
