Before we sold our (old and falling apart) house in Palatine, I fed the birds; we had a large window facing the backyard where our two bird feeders were located, and every once in a while I heard the awful sound of a bird crashing into the window. They would be stunned for a minute or two, then fly away. Only once did the bird die from the collision. I would keep the drapes closed, but that didn't always prevent it.

The birds were constantly at the two feeders, desperately trying to get their turn on the various perches, insatiable in their hunger. It got to the point where I was buying two 40-pound bags of seed at a time from Menard's, and they didn't last very long. When we moved, I gave the feeders and seed to our neighbor next door, feeling somewhat guilty that I had to abandon them.

I learned a lot about the behavior of the various breeds just by watching the scene play out in front of me, like colorful theater, and I miss them all dearly.
SandyKnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-3223439751224600422017-09-07T09:04:46.434-05:002017-09-07T09:04:46.434-05:00Right you are! For example, the porous concrete: should that be the choice for sidewalks these days or would the cycles of freeze and thaw destroy them quicker if rain and snow could get through?tatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10088632798195131329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-44524182423468902562017-09-07T07:38:37.826-05:002017-09-07T07:38:37.826-05:00Chicago Botanic Garden.
