Nevermind." Of old Saturday Night Live skits. Like you, avoided lsd and peyote. Also "downers" and anything remotely addictive. And for death defying adventure? I moved to the southside of Chicago. As a newly single mother.Having already given up rollercoasters and bullet rides, I needed a challenge.okiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05414998405758030304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-26960404211204855492017-05-27T10:18:57.017-05:002017-05-27T10:18:57.017-05:00Interesting, and glad to read this one; 1996 was b...Interesting, and glad to read this one; 1996 was before my NS-reading habit. Thankfully we humans still retain that adventurous spirit; we just have to weigh the reward with the risk. Yes, kind of selfish when loved ones are left behind to mourn the risk-takers. Today's opioid crisis touches on it in a somewhat similar manner, though being denied access to the legal meds which relieve excruciating pain is how most heroin addicts get hooked, for which I wouldn't place blame upon them.

SandyKAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-15395973468843313282017-05-27T10:11:07.268-05:002017-05-27T10:11:07.268-05:00Almost got killed crossing the street yesterday. ...Almost got killed crossing the street yesterday. Looked left - nothing there. Looked right -- plenty of room to get across the street. Took one step -- and there's a little black car speeding East not 5 feet from me. That's adventure enough for me. Thinking of having a T-shirt made, "I survived 63rd Street." Of course, I also survived the gin mills on Clark Street, Wilson Avenue, Broadway, and other blurry boulevards. Which is pretty miraculous, given that I've never been able to fight worth a damn and would rather carry a refrigerator on my back than a gun in my pocket.

johntatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10088632798195131329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3972382144120426476.post-66301968626172764772017-05-27T08:28:25.946-05:002017-05-27T08:28:25.946-05:00Agreed, with respect to the death defying and craz...Agreed, with respect to the death defying and crazily dangerous adventures. I too thought the same back then reading about that telephone call from the mountain. I dont think you were too harsh.
Just dont overlook the need for some adventurous change in routine to add spice to the daily grind of merging at Fullertin. An occasional relatively safe adventure ( biking or hiking the 1200 year old Compostella route through Spain and France for example).
And I too turned down LSD ( not because I thought I knew the adverse consequences but because I didnt....that, and never wanting to lose control.
