Please permit me to extend my deepest sympathies and condolences regarding your mother's passing. I'm saddened to hear of your family's loss.
Although we've never met, I've read your column, blog and books over the decades and have felt a sort of astrological kinship to you as we share both the same birth month, June, and birth year, 1960, as well as a similar perspective. We've also both shared having our parents live long and fulfilling lives. My mother passed November of 2024 and although my father is still present and relatively healthy, her passing has certainly left a tremendous void in my life.
I feel though that as long as I live, so will she, through my mental and physical being, as well as cherished memories, knowledge transmitted, and the love that she felt for me and I for her.
I wish that I could express my thoughts as well as you, but please know that the profound love of a mother for her child extends beyond the corporeal world and remains profoundly present and deeply felt within our sprirtual core.
I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. No matter how old we are, no one's ever ready to lose their mom. If we were fortunate, mom's love would be one of the most pure and unconditional loves we will know in our life.
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. It doesn't matter how old you are when you lose a parent, it is a significant and painful loss. My mother died 46 years ago when I was 33. There isn't a day that I don't miss her, want to tell her or ask her something. May good memories sustain you. Sandy
A sad milestone — sorry to read this news and hope you and the family are bearing up well under the circumstances. The more I meet people of our vintage and even younger whose parent died long ago, the more I realize how comparatively lucky you and I have been to have had our parents for so long (albeit with dementia haven taken its relentless toll on my mother and your father)
When I saw your mother’s baby picture at first I was startled because I have a similar picture of me. And my parents almost named me June because I also have a June birthday. I was so sad to learn she has died. Losing your mom is so hard. Don’t listen to people who try to tell you it’s okay because she lived to her nineties. It’s never okay. Time helps you and so does keeping busy. I am so sorry.
Do not listen to folks who say it’s okay because your mother got to live to her nineties. It’s never good to lose your mom. We survive now on memories.
May your memories bring you peace. May your family surround you with love. It is a profound moment, and it will unfold further as you navigate the loss. For now, I send condolences and strength for the many hard moments ahead.
Sorry to hear this sad news, Mister S. My sincere sympathy to you on the loss of your mother.
Your mother is always with you. Even in her absence...nothing on earth can separate you. Not time. Not space. Not even death. She is the place you came from…your very first home. She is the map you follow with your first steps. She is your first love. She is your first heartbreak when you leave the nest.
Your mother is always with you. She is the fresh laundry smell in your clean T-shirts, and the cool hand on your brow when you’re sick. She is cookies and milk (and more cookies) after school.
Your mother is always with you. When my own mother passed away, 13 summers ago. my sister and I were told: “She is not gone…she is just …away.” . There is a small book called “Peace of Mind”, by Joshua Lieberman, whose words say that for each one of us, the moment comes when the Great Nurse, Death, takes your hand and quietly says: “It’s time to go home…night is coming…it is your bedtime, child of the Earth.”
Please know that you are in my thoughts, Mister S. May God bless you and give you strength during this sorrowful time. But remember that your mother will always be with you..
