Last week's contest was very satisfying, because the winner was really, really glad to win—a longtime reader who was into the spirit of the thing.
But this week's is going to be even more satisfying, because I'm finally going to stump you. I can just feel it. Because this place is so off the beaten track, yet so grand. I used to think I was the only person who knew about it.
Which is where I'll stop. No more hints. As much as I like getting rid of my limited edition, hand-set blog posters, so I don't feel quite so stupid for printing them up in the first place, I am going to savor stumping the Hive with this carved cockatiel and bear. The place looks huge, and is. But where is it? Post your guesses below, for all the good it'll do. I've got you now!

I think I've seen this at the Chicago Cultural Center, but that's just a guess - and probably a false memory.

DeleteUGH .. I was just on campus this afternoon watching NU men's tennis beat Nebraska. But I had no chance on this one. I went to law school at Northwestern in Chicago but don't know the Evanston campus architecture too well.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to see King Dale had checked in, so I could stop wondering, then surprised when I googled Francis Dewes House and it did not seem likely that it was right. Also, there are certainly a lot of words written about this library on the web, and some pictures, but if there's another good photo of that cool coffered ceiling, I still haven't been able to find it. Much like Sandy looking at the carved cockatiels, my learning what a coffered ceiling was this morning was to no avail. The good thing is that I don't think I've been there. If I had, then I'd really be annoyed at not remembering it. : )
