Foxx and Fioretti in the same race — what’s not to love?

Oh Kim Foxx, Kim Foxx ...
There are so many reasons not to write about you, ever.
First, the race thing. Why risk provoking the Carol Moseley Braun defense? You know, when pointing out obvious deficiencies of public officials who are black is portrayed as a form of bigotry.
Thus, if I observe, oh, for instance, that Foxx wasn’t ready for the job — her main qualifications being a law degree and a cozy spot under the wing of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who elevated her for reasons mysterious — then suddenly I’m Bull Connor tightening my grip around an axe handle.
When in reality, the defense itself is racist: the racism of low expectations, the unsupportable notion that certain public figures are exempt from the careful scrutiny that any full-fledged adult must expect when entering the political arena.
To be safe, let’s bend over backward with Foxx.
A definite improvement over Anita Alvarez — Javert from “Les Miserables” would have been a definite improvement over Alvarez — Foxx so thoroughly botched the Jussie Smollett case that it overshadowed her record, particularly when, as if for an encore, to show what she is really capable of, Foxx even more acrobatically botched the fallout to her botching the Smollett case.

  1. Opened up my Sun-Times this morning and there it was on page 2. Beautiful. We all think it but nobody says it better. A little mellower than the old days, but still good. I might read this one at least three times today. Oh yeah, and anyone that doesn't like it let's you know about it. Good Stuff!

  2. I'd put the blame for the fiasco on Jussie Smollett. It's not Kim Foxx's fault Jussie has no understanding of the Chicago way, playing the game of favors given and returned. Someone in Jussie's circle a friend, manager, or producer, who had connections contacted Michelle Obama and her people who asked Kim to drop charges. Jussie then proceeds to quadruple down on stupid, embarrassing Kim and to a lesser extent Michelle. If I fell in the Cook County State Attorney's cross hairs, and had a relative who was friends with Michelle who pulled strings on my behalf, I'd be a heck of a lot more humble than Jussie. Don't be specific, just apologize for a lapse in judgement, and thank Kim and the Chicago police for their good work and understanding.
Bob Fioretti is no joke, His destruction of Felony Franks, a very admirable concept, permanently places Fioretti in the axis of evil, forever. Then there is the seemingly well funded campaign of Bill Conway. It's doubtful any of his ideas would reduce gun violence in Chicago.

    1. I wasn't aware that Michelle Obama had anything to do with it. If so, it was never reported.

    2. I wish people would pause before saying the media didn't report something to check whether the media, you know, reported something. https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/30/us/jussie-smollett-tina-tchen/index.html

  3. For the life of me, I cannot understand why some people are making such a big honking deal over the Jussie Smollett case. Yes, he could have been charged with filing a false police report, but so what? He made an utter public fool of himself and tanked his career. Making him pick up trash in the park for a weekend or two would have just been pointless piling on.

It's hard for me to believe that all of the people who are carrying on like Foxx let John Wayne Gacy out of prison are doing so in good faith. A lot of them, cops and others, are totally invested in the lock-up-all-the-bastards model of law enforcement, and get commensurately pissy when a prosecutor comes along who takes a wider view. And I am not in the least accusing Neil, but when that prosecutor is black, there is no way anyone can tell me that every such critic is free of racist motives.

  4. flawed she is, but so far, all her potential opponents seem to be competing to be the next coming of anita alverez, leaving foxx to be the default choice for me.

  5. I plan to vote for Kim Foxx, but it will be a "protest" vote, knowing that she hasn't a chance to win after the Jussie debacle. She screwed it up from day one with the phony recusal and then made it worse and worse. However, she has attempted to right the scales a bit, so that minor offenders don't get dragged into the prison-for-life system and I don't see anybody else willing to make such an attempt.

  6. Fioretti is scum!
He's the creep, who as aldercreature cost the city $250,000 in legal bills when he illegally prevented a hot dog joint, called Felony Franks, a sign permit, because he was offended by the name. That was a violation of the hot dog joint's 1st Amendment rights & also meant that Fioretti violated his oath of office to "support & defend the Constitution of the United States"!
