Mike Pence.
Ah, hahahahahaha.
Well, if there is anyone in America still wondering what the 2016 election is all about — and those people seem to exist, though I can't imagine how — Donald Trump's all-but-official choice for vice president, Mike Pence, governor of Indiana, ought to nudge them toward making up their minds.
Pence is Trump's Christian Soldier, the man Trump hopes will march with him onward to the White House. Pence has called himself "a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.” The Indiana governor is the guy who last year vigorously defended a state law designed to allow Hoosier businessmen to express their contempt for gays and lesbians, provided they could gin up a religion-based justification. The law's immediate effect was to cost Indiana millions, as large corporations — which have learned the gays-are-employees-and-customers lesson so elusive to Republican leaders — scrambled for the exits.
Pence also signed one of the most draconian anti-abortion laws in the country, one that would force a woman who had an abortion to pick out a little Twinkie-sized mahogany coffin to bury her aborted fetus in or pay for cremation, her choice.
Mike Pence! Not a lot of ambiguity there. Do I sound gleeful? Honestly, I'm disappointed. I was pulling for Newt Gingrich as the sentimental favorite.

Does this story seem familiar? It's like Trump and his choice minions where taken from the Frank L. Baum's story "The Wizard of Oz"! About a couple of guys with no brains, no heart, no courage and no regard for human dignity or decency, who take-off on a bizarre journey to find homeland security in a pretend land! Pay no attention to either of those men behind the curtain! But beware of the the wicked witch of the Mid-west and her flying monkey boy, oh boy, oh boy! Can't wait to see the end of this scary movie!

I was just reading the piece about Gingrich demanding any Muslim who believes in Sharia law must be deported. Well, Mike Pence has been signing off on Sharia laws since he became governor of Indiana, so shouldn't he be the first to go?
ReplyDeleteDo it with a crescent, no good.
DeleteDo it with a cross, cool.
Neil,
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning Gingrich's mad political lexicon initiative.
Imagine having a passion for public service, trying to decide how best to serve your constituency, how to devote the precious and limited time available to help the country become a better place, and what you come up with is a list of subversive words designed to turn citizens against each other. That Newt is a pip isn't he?
People have such short memories I fear it will be lost to the sands of time that much of today's toxic political atmosphere started with Newt sending out his lists of words to demonize liberals. It was the beginning of using words not to communicate ideas, but rather as weapons to bludgeon with. His word lists represent an important defining waypoint in American history, like poisoned Tylenol bottles, the atomic bomb, internment camps, and loyalty oaths.
The latest polls show Trump and Clinton in a tie.
ReplyDeleteWhat is WRONG with people?!
A couple of weeks ago, i asked our A/C service man whom he liked for President in this election. He almost clicked his heels and shouted, "Sieg HEIL," as he shouted "Trump!" When I asked why, he again raised his voice and shouted, "Security!" He is good at his job and I was reminded not to ask strangers about their politics. I was also reminded how we Democrats must get out and vote.
ReplyDeleteas always, Charlie Pierce nails Pence: "...his rich history as a towering lightweight whose basic philosophy is divined from whatever bed-sniffing yahoo preacher or Hoosier plutocrat spoke to him last."
ReplyDeleteWhat drives me crazy is the monumental hypocrisy of Republicans. When they wanted to hang Bill Clinton for his sexual exploits, they were all chanting "it's about character; it's about character". But a nitwit like Trump with his 3 marriages and documented affairs is the nominee and pretends to be evangelical (how can they be so stupid?), they stand around smiling like idiots. I just don't get it.
ReplyDeleteThink of it as a tragic emphasis on the short term. Why would a major party ignore global warming? Because addressing it crimps business profit? Why would the GOP give the finger to two of the fastest growing groups in America, Hispanics and gays? Why would John McCain squat over his legacy and take a dump on it? Fear of the next election. They're all tactics and no strategy.
DeleteUm, do you think Pence approved the new logo featuring a, um, copulation of his and Trump's initials? Heh..
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought that was a parody.
DeleteWhen I first saw it, the 13-yr old in me started giggling at TP, the GOP seems to wipe their bums with the constitution so it seems appropriate. Then I noticed how short and stubby the lines in the T are, the Onion staff somehow infiltrated Trump's minions and created this.
DeletePlanned Parenthood took a shot at it as well, covering the bottom of the T with a condom.
